About Rotaract
Rotaract, which stands for ‘Rotary In Action', is the youth wing of the Rotary Organization and consists of young and enthusiastic individuals aged 18 or above, as its members.
It is a service, leadership, professional, and community service organization, which aims at carrying out initiatives and projects under these aspects as well as avenues like Sports, Editorial, Digital Communications, and International Service.
Rotaract was officially inaugurated in January 1968 under RI President Luther Hodges. On 13 March 1968, the Rotaract Club of the University of North Carolina, sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, was the first Rotaract club to receive its official charter.
Rotaract clubs bring together people to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service. It focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.
Within Rotaract, there are sub-regions or ‘Districts’, which have a group of community-based or institution-based Rotaract clubs, all abiding by geographical jurisdictions. The smooth and efficient functioning of these Districts is of paramount importance for the governance of its constituent Rotaract clubs.
MDIOs or Multi-District International Organizations comprise various districts from a broader geographical region and are an excellent medium for Rotaractors to facilitate and develop bonds with their counterparts from around the world.
Today, Rotaract continues to experience phenomenal growth. There are currently more than 10.904 Rotaract clubs in more than 184 countries, with an estimated membership of more than 250,792 Rotaractors. As the program continues to grow, Rotaractors repeatedly show that they are prepared for “Fellowship Through Service.”
