About District 3090
The RI District 3090 is situated along the North Western border of India and includes areas of three adjacent states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, This ancient region has been a cradle of civilization from times immemorial and hence rich in historical and cultural traditions. The oldest Hindu religious book, The Rig Veda dating several centuries before Christ was compiled in this land The whole District is dotted with monuments and buildings of historical interest.
Geographically in the north, the District starts from the South of the river Sutlej and extends downwards through the fertile plains of 11 revenue Districts of Punjab (Bathinda, Fatehgarh sahib, Mansa, Muktsar, Moga, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Fazilka), 4 revenue District of Haryana (Sirsa. Fatehabad, Hisar. Bhiwani) and two revenue Districts of Rajasthan (Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh). Eastwards it is bounded by the Union Territory of Chandigarh and extends westwards up to the International boarded with Pakistan. It is bounded by Rotary Districts 3070, 3080, 3011 & 3053 of India and 3272 of Pakistan.
The river Ghaghra which comes into spate during monsoons almost crosses Punjab & Haryana through the middle and ends near Hanumangarh in Rajasthan. About 5000 years back the Indus Valley civilization thrived along its banks
The whole of the area is covered under the vast network of irrigation canals and it is a land of golden harvests. The main crops include wheat, cotton, oil seeds, pulses, Paddy, sugarcane, millet, and a variety of vegetables. The fruit orchards yield good varieties of citrus, grapes, mangoes Guavas, etc. The main industries are steel, fertilizer, Insecticides light engineering. Pharmaceuticals, sports goods, textile, woolens, cycles, paper, sugar, liquor, and agro-based Industries,
The whole of the area has a good communication system and contains a large mileage of surfaced roads, National highways. State highways, Railways, and one civil airport at Bathinda. The languages mostly in use are Punjabi, Hindi, and English. The regions professed by people are mainly Hinduism & Sikhism and in a few areas, Islam and Christianity are also there. During summer the temperature varies from 35-49 degrees and during winter maximum of 1-14 degrees. The monsoon period is July and August. The literacy rate is 65% and life expectancy is 65 years. The main occupation of the people is farming, industry, trading in food grains, soldiering, and other professions. Many technical, medical, and educational institutions are working in this area. This Rotary District 3090 came into existence during the year 1984-85 bifurcating from District 3010 and the first District Governor of this Rotary District was fate Rtn. VB Vohra from Patiala & DRR late Rtr Pawan Mehta from Fatehabad.
